Les Hammer is Smart Sensor Systems' Vice President of Engineering. His responsibilities include investigation and writing of contract proposals and the development of software and firmware for functional test systems and other existing products. Additionally, Les is responsible for overseeing the development of the IEEE 1451 and smart sensor training programs offered by Smart Sensor Systems, Inc.
Les has a long and extensive background in test and measurement (T&M). Les is an expert in waveform generation, precision measurements and switches. He is experienced in Statistical Quality Control charts, driver development, web development and user interfaces, using a variety of computer languages including Rocky Mountain BASIC, Visual C++, Visual BASIC, HP/Agilent VEE and NI LabVIEW. Les has consistently delivered improvements in speed and functionality for test systems, including a 10-fold increase in speed for the Agilent Digital I/O instrument driver. He has extended functionality and/or improved speed for old instruments to maintain market share while new products were under development. Les is experienced in training other people to develop test software and has developed modules that speed customer development of their own software.
Les received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and worked for HP/Agilent for 25 years. He received a patent, No. 6,351,779, for increasing the IEEE-1394 (Firewire) driver speed by up to 500% for register-based VXI instruments.
Les is an Adjunct Instructor at the Colorado School of Mines where he teaches the Multidisciplinary Engineering Laboratory I Experiments class bringing his experience in making accurate measurements as well as measurements using smart sensors, to engineering students.
