As Chief Technical Officer, Jay is responsible for maintaining the technical direction of Smart Sensor Systems, Inc and translating that vision into day-to-day development of products and services.
Jay has a long and extensive background in test and measurement (T&M). He has developed products that include instrument firmware, low level I/O drivers for Windows and Unix platforms, instrument drivers and application code for instrumentation.
As a recognized leader in test and measurement standardization, Jay’s work has been key in developing standards. He was the inventor and technical lead for SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instrumentation), for which he received a patent. He was interoperability chair for the VXIplug&play alliance and also wrote many of the standards for this effort. Additionally, he contributed to the IEEE-488.2 effort. Currently Jay is the secretary of the IEEE-p1451.0 Smart Sensor Standards effort and is working with the ISA’s (Instrument Society of America) SP100 Wireless Sensor Standards effort. Jay actively participates in technical conferences and presents papers relating to smart sensors on a regular basis.
Jay received a BSEE and an MSCS from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He currently lives in Loveland, Colorado with his wife and three children. In his free time, Jay enjoys sports car events and competitive horse-drawn carriage driving.
