About Us

Smart Sensor Systems is a developer and supplier of IEEE 1451-compliant sensor products, consulting and training. We are located in Loveland, Colorado, 60 miles north of Denver.

Smart Sensor Systems is a certified women-owned small business.

Vision: To be a leading provider of innovative wireless smart sensor solutions and wireless sensor networks

Mission: Create high quality wireless IEEE 1451 smart sensor products, solutions, training and compliance test services

SSS store front picture

In June 2005, NIST awarded a small business innovative research grant (SBIR) to Smart Sensor Systems to develop IEEE 1451-compliant smart sensors with GPS capability. IEEE 1451 is an emerging "smart sensor" standard currently being developed. Smart Sensor Systems contributes a leading role to two IEEE 1451 committees developing the standards for smart sensors; IEEE 1451.0 and IEEE 1451.5. The 1451.0 committee is the Common Functions and Protocols, and TEDS Formats Working Group. The 1451.5 committee is the Wireless Sensors Working Group. The IEEE 1451 standard will provide total interoperability of 1451-compliant sensors.

As members of the IEEE 1451 standard working groups, Smart Sensor Systems has up-to-date insight into the development of the standard and its application to smart sensor product design. This expertise carries over into the company's smart sensor consulting knowledge and breadth and depth of training offered. Smart Sensor Systems is a pioneer in the development and application of IEEE 1451-compliant sensors (smart sensors) and we provide compliance testing of smart sensor products to the IEEE 1451 standards.

Wireless smart sensors lower the cost of integrating sensors into any application. They also make updating buildings or infrastructure with sensors a much easier task that is now cost effective.
